Security features

With the advent of distributed and disconnected applications the need for security has increased dramatically for an enterprise's Internet and intranet operations. Governments and private individuals alike are becoming increasingly concerned for the privacy of their data and as a number of US, Canadian, and European government regulations demand data privacy and institute stiff penalties for non-compliance. OpenEdge 10 responds to these regulatory challenges by providing a number of architectural and language security features. OpenEdge 10 enables you to implement private data transmission through fully secure SSL connections between OpenEdge components, as well as to third party products. Additionally, data privacy and integrity features have been added into the 4GL language. These features allow select data encryption and methods to detect if data has been altered during storage or transit.
